    Riesz transforms on solvable extensions of stratified groups

    Let G=N⋊AG = N \rtimes A, where NN is a stratified group and A=RA = \mathbb{R} acts on NN via automorphic dilations. Homogeneous sub-Laplacians on NN and AA can be lifted to left-invariant operators on GG and their sum is a sub-Laplacian Δ\Delta on GG. Here we prove weak type (1,1)(1,1), LpL^p-boundedness for p∈(1,2]p \in (1,2] and H1→L1H^1 \to L^1 boundedness of the Riesz transforms YΔ−1/2Y \Delta^{-1/2} and YΔ−1ZY \Delta^{-1} Z, where YY and ZZ are any horizontal left-invariant vector fields on GG, as well as the corresponding dual boundedness results.     This project will assess the capability of reading digital music by using a projector screen during a choral reading session at the American Choral Directors Association Convention. The participating Choral Directors from various schools and colleges in the Northeast will perform the reading session partly from a screen with projected music and partly from hardcopies of music. Their reactions will be surveyed, and conclusions will be drawn to verify whether or not this method can be used and effective during an actual rehearsal

    Beyond Employment Rate: A Multidimensional Indicator of Higher Education Effectiveness

    This paper proposes a multidimensional indicator of higher education effectiveness that aims at going beyond the limits of measuring university effectiveness merely through employment rates. The units of analysis are the study programmes. Eleven indicators related to external effectiveness are selected, and their reliability for and relevance to the representation of the concept of effectiveness are empirically evaluated. The data are drawn from a longitudinal survey administered to graduates of the University of Padua, Italy, from 2008 to 2011. From our analyses, effectiveness appears to be a multidimensional concept composed by professional empowerment, employability and personal fulfilment. The right time for collecting relevant data on educational outcomes varies according to the types of indicators: indicators of professional empowerment assessed 1 year after graduation are most suitable, while for personal fulfilment measurement both short- and long-term evaluation are relevant, and, for employability, data collected 3 years after graduation cannot discriminate among study programmes.This paper proposes a multidimensional indicator of higher education effectiveness that aims at going beyond the limits of measuring university effectiveness merely through employment rates.     Durability Demonstration Procedures of Emission Control Devices for Euro 6 Vehicles

    The implementation of increasingly demanding vehicle emissions standards fostered the improvement of existing aftertreatment technologies and the development of innovative solutions. However, new vehicle standards are only beneficial if effectively lead to emissions reduction; this implies assuring compliance with emissions limits not only for new registrations but also throughout vehicles’ useful life. With this aim, current legislation introduced emissions durability requirements; alternatively to actual in-use driving, the normative also proposes tailored accelerated aging procedures for PI and CI vehicles (Standard Bench Cycle and Standard Diesel Bench Cycle respectively) or the application of assigned deterioration factors. Whereas the fast aging protocol for vehicles with PI engine had already been successfully applied, the newly introduced approach for CI vehicles fast aging still has to prove its validity. The present report aims at contributing to a deeper understanding of aftertreatment system aging mechanisms and methods in order to assess Euro-6 vehicles durability approach. An overview on the legislative background is given before introducing an investigation on deterioration mechanisms that could critically affect most commonly implemented aftertreatment devices. The current accelerated aging procedure is then presented in greater detail, with focus on differences between gasoline and diesel vehicles approach; differences between European and American fast aging strategies are also discussed. The Standard Diesel Bench Cycle is examined in detail and focus is brought on potential deficiencies to match real diesel aftertreatment system aging mechanisms; open issues are discussed and complemented with the proposal for suitable solutions which are being jointly developed by US Research Institutes and Industries. Finally, a review of deterioration factors currently available for Euro-6 like vehicles is presented, in order to evaluate the variability of performance degradation for latest aftertreatment technologies.JRC.F.8-Sustainable Transpor
